Rates of exchange (the price of eggs)

In the paper “Should the Artist Become a Man of the World?”, published in Art News magazine in October 1964, Allan Kaprow states: “A picture never changed the price of eggs.” In 1975, he published the artist’s book Rates of Exchange with Arc Press Books, which entered the CDLA collection in 2017.

The protocol Rates of Exchange (the price of eggs) proposes, during the exhibition Litote institutionnelle, the sale of eggs by the piece (at a maximum of one egg per person), with the price indexed to the evolution of the price of Allan Kaprow’s book. Each egg sold is delivered without protective packaging.
