Three disappearances (erosion of a rock, plant decomposition and evaporation of a puddle). Recordings
As part of the 2016 edition of the Bergen Assembly triennial in Norway, co-curated by curators Sandra Terdjman, Gregory Castera and artist Tarek Atoui, I am invited to contribute to a collection of recordings of sound phenomena « imperceptible » to both deaf and hearing people. This collection is then presented through various vibrating and tactile devices.
Having received the invitation while I am at the seaside on the Breton coast, I record three disappearances around me using contact microphones or hydrophone. The recordings are made for several hours (until the battery runs out), and then edited as fifteen-minute excerpts for each recording.
1. Erosion of a rock: contact microphones placed on a rock at rising tide.
2. Plant decomposition: contact microphones buried in a garden compost.
3. Puddle evaporation: hydrophone placed in a puddle at low tide.
