Une journée de travail

Une journée de travail (A working day) is part of the Partitions de travail (scores for work) series which brings together a set of musical scores for workers, each dealing with a specific aspect of the relationships of individuation operating in the world of work. It takes as a starting point a text by Gabriel Gauny on variations of the perception of the duration of work depending on desire. 
For its incarnation at the BBB art centre in Toulouse, the work is presented to visitors in the form of a frieze and 12 notebooks. The frieze, which is pinned to the wall, displays “typical” working weeks of members of the art centre team. The pins mark the date on which employees are to follow the score set out for them: a day on which the person is brought to carry out all activities as slowly as possible.

Prior to and after their allocated day, each employee individually transcribes the performance of the score in a notebook, so as to record their reflections, choices made and felt and the perception of time as experienced throughout this day. On the exhibition days on which the work is performed, visitors can observe the person performing it.
