Data-ventriloquisme

A voice is speaking. I know its tone, its range, its rhythm, its hesitations and its assurance, its formulas, its breath, its mouth clicks and other characteristic sounds of its phonatory apparatus, its pauses and its own flow. I listen to him and speak to him in turn. Who is talking? A barometer, an index, a referencing, a ranking, an information, a personalized advertisement, a recommendation, a note, a GPS, a click, or maybe a high frequency transaction, a preference, a benchmark, a survey, a list, a comment, a cookie, a counter, a like, a ranking, a vote, an algorithm. This performance is interested in the work of the data on the processes of individuation, and in return to what these last ones get to this one, to the possible predictions around which their dialogue turns.

This project continues the work of voice processing by indexing data and statistics elaborated in the framework of the piece European Crisis Tim Capsule, but this time applying it live to my own voice or to the voices of people I collaborate with.

Its first activation took place at the Centre culturel des Chiroux in Liège, where I was invited in November 2021 to perform, and then to dialogue with the architect Bernard Deffet. Proposing to bring together these two moments of the evening, I modulated live the voice of my interlocutor who decided to record the reading of a text on the relationship between architecture and tourism in Croatia in connection with a project on which he was working then.
