Projet pour l’ENSAE au titre du 1% artistique

Unsuccessful application for the conception, the realization and the installation of an artwork for the 1% artistic contribution within the Groupe des Écoles Nationales d’Économie et Statistique.

Considering both the singularity of the architectural project developed by CAB architects for the new ENSAE building, where the transparency of the building and its openness to the outside world play an important role, and the international expertise of the school in economics and statistics, my project consists in the realization of a connected software that continuously determines an index of the inequalities of the living conditions, the variations of which modulate in real time the opacity of the adjoining windows of the convivial spaces.

The visible part of the project concerns only the windows of the convivial spaces on the different floors. The lower the index of inequality of living conditions, the more transparent the windows adjacent to the convivial spaces become. And conversely, the higher the index, the more opaque the windows become. The opacity/transparency of the windows concerned thus varies from day to day, if not from hour to hour, according to the continuous calculation of this index. The very appearance of the building – more precisely that of the openings to the outside of the convivial spaces – is informed and transformed by the objects that form the basis of ENSAE’s teaching and research, economics and statistics.
